Iris Azul, 2022
This mechanical iris cabinet was built from a combination of wood, brass and 3D printed parts. It has a diameter of 30 inches and a wingspan of 48 inches when fully opened. There are over 100 parts, 30 bearings, and 16 axes of rotation in this design.
This cabinet has been on my mind for 3 years. I knew how I thought it should function and look, but didn't think that I had the skills necessarily to build it. So I decided to wait until I felt more capable before attempting the project. After years of dreaming and the past 6 weeks of prototyping the iris mechanism, I am so happy to see it finally come to life.
